Want to try our services?

Our systems make your life simpler with our building management controls for automating many tasks, some are for fun and entertainment while many are for practical uses such as opening gates or high reach skylights while other uses can be to control ovens and lights

IDES LTD received a call asking if we could help with a ‘dimmer system’ that was not operating properly.

So we asked if the client (the School of Nursing and Midwifery in Edinburgh) could forward some pictures of the system so we would have an insight into what we were being asked to attend to. This came back with the overview that the dimming ‘kit’ was serving 2 dimmed and 5 switched lighting circuits.

Dimmer installation ScotlandNow, this is what we would call ‘old kit’ and needless to say defunct so we needed to remove the toehold system and install one of our new KNX dimming and switching actuators by Theben AG. I will post before and after pictures. We are sure you’re amazed at the difference in the size of the newly installed equipment.

Replacement lighting

We also replaced 60+ 5ft fluorescent fittings with LEDVANCE led strip lights and 20 ‘par 38 ‘ spotlights with Megaman UK led replacement lamps, providing the client with great energy-saving benefits also.

In summary, IDES completed the removal of the client’s ‘antique’ lighting control system. Firstly we removed the old and then installed the latest dimming and switching control system utilising KNX protocol THEBEN AG devices. The space saved using this modern ‘kit’ is substantial.

More importantly, we have produced large energy and cost savings, both in energy consumption and maintenance. Due to the very high ceilings, changing a lamp was a two-man job with scaffolding. Having replaced par 38 spotlights with MEGAMAN UK par 38 led lamps and the fluorescent strips with LEDVANCE LTD led strip lights the lamp life has been greatly increased therefore reducing lamp replacements.
